CSUEB faculty to discuss Pio Pico, last governor of Mexican California, on Sept 22

Carlos Salomon, assistant professor of ethnic studies and director of the Latin American Studies program at 麻豆传媒社区入口, will participate in the 28th annual San Leandro Historical Society’s Day at the Casa – “an extravaganza of local history discovery and celebration.” Read .

Salomon will talk about his book Pío Pico: The Last Governor of Mexican California (2010 University of Oklahoma Press). Two-time governor of the Mexican colony of Alta California and prominent businessman after the U.S. Annexation, Pico was a politically savvy Californio who thrived in both the Mexican and the American periods. Salomon brings to life this story of a mestizo-black man who became one of the wealthiest men in California.
