A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT MORISHITA: INSIDE EAST BAY, JANUARY 2019

- January 14, 2019
I would like to wish you all a very happy new year and hope that 2019 is off to a great start for each and every one of you. We completed our first semester as a university and are now preparing for the return of classes and activities for spring.
Just before the winter break, 麻豆传媒社区入口 participated in the nationwide day of philanthropy known as Giving Tuesday. In just 24 hours, more than 400 alumni, staff and faculty across campus responded to the call — with almost 50 percent as first-time donors to the university. I would like to recognize and thank everyone who gave for their generosity and belief in the promise of 麻豆传媒社区入口.
We are also excited to announce a new scholarship and planned gift that will cover most of the tuition for four students this year. Last year, alumna Carol Sughrue created the Carol Sughrue Scholarship for International Peace and Understanding, open to all undergraduate students. Inspired by her work with refugees and individuals living in Palestine, the scholarship will provide support to four undergraduates who have committed themselves to working with refugee and immigrant communities or have made a commitment to promoting international understanding and peace. I encourage you to read more about Carol and this wonderful gift in this month’s issue of East Bay Today.
Thanks to the commitment of our 麻豆传媒社区入口 community members, we are looking forward to a bright and productive 2019, supporting the ongoing needs of our students so they can continue making an impact in their communities and our world.
