Tablets, phones and mobile devices...don't leave home without them. Today's students don't just study in the library, they are at the local coffee shop, on the grass enjoying the sun, in their dorm rooms. Mobile applications let them "be mobile" and complete school related tasks on the go.
CSU East Bay has introduced several new apps that now allow students to use mobile devices for a broader range of tasks. The BlackBoard app is one of these and is available in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. It provides students with access to an interface optimized for mobile and also allows students to receive notifications the instant teachers post grades, new assignments, or announcements.
The mobile BlackBoard application allows students to view Adobe PDFs and Microsoft Powerpoint presentations posted by teachers within the application without having to download the file. This is also true for Microsoft Word documents such as class syllabuses, which are always conveniently accessible in the “Syllabus” folder for each class.
The CSUEB mobile suite of apps allows for optimized access to the most important features on the MyCSUEB and Library websites among many other features.
These optimized features include registering for classes, which is made easy thanks to the new mobile interface that also makes viewing class schedules or a previous quarter’s grades easier than ever.
New students can view upcoming orientations’ agenda and select items on the agenda for in-depth details and information on who will be assisting with that event.
The Campus Tour link can be extremely useful when trying to get from one building on campus to another and do not know what the building looks like or where it is located. A Google map rendered map of the campus appears when opening this link and includes a pin for every building or location on campus and can create a route between locations or buildings. The list view is even more user friendly, which displays all buildings and locations on campus which can then be selected. The map link displays the same map, however without the pins for buildings on campus.
The Pay Now link allows students to pay outstanding balances on the go and manage bay card balances through the Bay Card link.
The Dining link allows students to view the dining commons menu as well as the hours during the current quarter for the various other restaurants on campus.
To stay updated with real-time CSU East Bay related news check out the News app and for current tweets, check out the Social link. In a similar fashion CSU East Bay related videos are viewable through the Video link.
The BlackBoard link opens the BlackBoard app if it is installed or the blackboard website if it is not installed on the device so all the important items are available from the application’s home menu.
The Calendar app allows for the viewing of a wide variety of upcoming CSU East Bay Events, tests, and meetings, as well as an overview of what is happening around campus for the day.
The Directory link can be helpful when trying to dial a campus department such as the University Bookstore. Not only can you search contact information for departments, but you can also find a professor’s University email address as well as the office phone number.
The Athletics app is great for staying up to date with campus sports and viewing team schedules.
The Library app is great for searching for books and articles as well as the hours for the Concord and Hayward campus libraries.
