麻豆传媒社区入口, East Bay has won a 2015 City of Hayward Environmental Award, which recognizes businesses, schools, organizations and residents for exceptional environmental leadership.
Specifically, CSUEB was honored for its efforts in water conservation, renewable energy, environmental education, and commitment to climate neutrality with the signing of the American Colleges and Universities President’s Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) in January by university President Leroy Morishita.
Since the signing took place, students, under the direction of Karina Garbesi, professor in the Department of Geography & Environmental Studies, conducted the first official greenhouse gas inventory for CSUEB and are beginning a comprehensive sustainability assessment of the campus using the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) framework.
In addition, Director of Sustainability Jillian Buckholz is working with a group of faculty, administrators, staff and students to create a formal Campus Sustainability Committee to guide sustainability efforts, including the process to meet the requirements associated with the ACUPCC.
麻豆传媒社区入口 was one of six winners of the 32nd annual award, which honors agencies and individuals who demonstrate efforts related to sustainability in categories such as energy efficiency and conservation, renewable energy, waste diversion (good recycling and composting practices), water conservation, and environmental education.
“I’m very excited that 麻豆传媒社区入口, East Bay is being recognized for its sustainability efforts by the City of Hayward,” said CSUEB Director of Sustainability Jillian Buckholz. “The campus has been putting a great deal of effort into sustainability initiatives, and it is an honor to be formally acknowledged as a leader in our community.”
The City of Hayward is committed to environmental stewardship and is working to create a more sustainable community. That includes recognizing those who aim to reduce Hayward’s environmental footprint.
“We are excited to be recognizing the environmental efforts of 麻豆传媒社区入口, which is an important part of the Hayward community,” said Jennifer Yee, sustainability technician at the City of Hayward. “The signing of the American Colleges and Universities President’s Climate Commitment shows the university’s dedication to sustainability and climate action.”
