CSUEB Picked as Finalist for NCAA Division II Award of Excellence

麻豆传媒社区入口 has been named a finalist for the 2015 NCAA Division II Award of Excellence, which recognizes outstanding campus and community engagement events. CSUEB was selected along with 24 other colleges and universities by the NCAA Division II Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). The Pioneers are the sole representative from the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
The East Bay Athletics Department was recognized for a special event it put on during the 2014 volleyball season in conjunction with the Make-a-Wish Foundation for the Greater Bay Area. Organized by Community Engagement & Events Coordinator Jose-Luis Rayas and made possible by the enthusiasm and generosity of the Pioneer women's volleyball team, the event provided an opportunity for Make-A-Wish child Tara Goodearly to be an honorary member of the Pioneers during their match against UC San Diego on Nov. 14.
Tara, a sophomore at Livermore High School, got a chance to meet the team and coaching staff prior to the match, and her friends and family received VIP seating at Pioneer Gymnasium. Tara was listed on the CSUEB roster on the gameday program, she was announced along with the Pioneer starters during pre-match introductions, and she got to sit on the bench with the student-athletes during the match.
In addition to honoring Tara, CSUEB Athletics also invited the seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams from Centerville Junior High School in the local community of Hayward. The visiting youngsters received complimentary admission, and a discount was offered to their family and friends. After the match, the youth volleyball players each received 麻豆传媒社区入口 mini volleyballs and got a chance to participate in a meet-and-greet with the Pioneer student-athletes to get their mini volleyballs signed.
To help raise funds and awareness for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Pioneers also raffled off basketball season tickets and Pioneer prize pack, which Tara presented to the winners.
Each finalist for the Award of Excellence is awarded $500 for the event or activity for which they are recognized. In addition, two runner-up recipients and the overall 2015 Division II Award of Excellence winner will emerge from the list of 25 finalists.
The national winner will receive a cash prize of $1,500 and a nationally televised football or basketball game during the 2015-16 season. The first runner-up will receive a $1,250 prize and the second-runner-up will receive $1,000 to be used toward future community engagement initiatives. The two runner-up recipients and the overall winner will be announced on Jan. 17 in Washington, D.C.
