- April 2, 2014
First year 麻豆传媒社区入口 softball players Emily Perlich and Jaynie MacDonald were named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, for Mar. 24-30.
Perlich tossed the first no-hitter by a Pioneer pitcher since 1998, and MacDonald led the squad with her .583 batting average as the team won three out of four games on the road against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Perlich went 2-0 against the Toros, highlighted by her no-hit effort in her second start of the weekend Saturday (March 29). The junior faced one batter over the minimum due to a third inning walk, leading CSUEB to a 9-0 win. She had earned her third of four straight wins in the series opener on Friday after allowing just one hit over the first five innings.
Perlich struck out 12 batters in 12 innings over the weekend and has won her last four starts, improving her season record to 6-10 with a 3.29 earned run average. She is currently tied for fourth among CCAA players with 71 strikeouts and alone in fourth with 11 complete games thus far in 2014.
MacDonald collected at least one base hit in each of the four games against Dominguez Hills. She finished 7-for-12, including three doubles and a home run, and drove in five runs. MacDonald opened the series with her first three-hit game as a Pioneer. Her 3-for-3 effort with four RBI played a key role in the team's 8-5 victory on Friday.
Over the past 12 games, MacDonald has raised her batting average by more than 80 points to .301 for the season. She ranks eighth in the CCAA with 10 doubles and 15th overall with four homers this season.
Next weekend the Pioneers (14-18) will compete at the annual Turlock Convention & Visitors Bureau Tournament of Champions, hosted by Cal State Stanislaus. The tourney starts Friday, April 4.
