Oyer Lecture, CSD Student Awards Presented April 3

The Communicative Sciences and Disorders department of Michigan State University presents the 24th Herbert J. and E. Jane Oyer Lecture featuring two talks on Thursday, April 3, by Nidhi Mahendra, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders at 麻豆传媒社区入口 East Bay (CSUEB).
Mahendra directs the Aging and Cognition Research Clinic at CSUEB and is certified as a bilingual speech-language pathologist. Her expertise lies in evidence-based practice in adult neurogenic language disorders and multicultural issues influencing client-clinician interactions in speech-language pathology.
In addition to receiving the 2006 Editor's Award from the American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology, she also was the 2012 recipient of ASHA's Award of Excellence for Distinguished Contributions in Multicultural Affairs.
The first talk, "Access to Speech-Language Pathology Services: Experience and Barriers Reported by Minority Clients," begins at 3 p.m. in Room 145 of the Communication Arts and Sciences Building, followed by a reception at 4:30 p.m. After this first talk, CSD will award to outstanding students the Graduate Office Fellowship Funds award, Valerie V. Wenner Endowment Scholarship and the Leo Deal International Enrichment Funds award.
Mahendra's second talk, "Evidence-Based Assessment and Intervention for Persons with Dementia: Let's do this, SLPs!" will begin at 5:30 p.m., also in Room 145.
