"I'm still worried I don't know how he is over there, if he is getting food, water, clothes," said Cyril Gerez’s daughter, Anjouli, who is a 麻豆传媒社区入口 student.
Cyril Gerez is an Engineer who lives in Hayward and was both of Anjouli’s grandmothers in Tachlobin City last Friday when Typhoon Haiyan hit.
Anjouli tells KTVU the typhoon caused a river of water to rush through the house. Her father was able to get outside.
“He was just holding on for his life. He was on the roof of our small house and was holding on for his life," said Gerez.
Anjouli says her two grandmothers were stuck inside the home where they hung onto floating furniture cushions for as long as they could. Sadly one of her grandmothers, Delphina Abasolo, eventually had to let go.
"She was sucked in to the current and she just drowned," said Gerez.
Anjouli spoke with her father by phone on Monday for the first time since the typhoon struck. He told her food was scarce, and that he and many others have no idea where any relief centers were set up.
"My dad told me his clothes are so dirty. He doesn't have slippers. He walks barefoot on the streets just to get food," said Anjouli.
The Gerez family told KTVU on Tuesday that they were doing their best to stay strong and hope for the best, but Anjouli added that they had no idea when Cyril would be able to return home.
