Pioneer softball players visit Hayward shooting victim

A young girl who was injured in a shooting in mid September got a special visit recently from four members of the Pioneer softball team, as well as head coach Barbara Pierce. Mandy Dale, Kelsey Cairns, Vika Kafoa, and Andrea Scott stopped by the 10-year-old's hospital room to visit with her and drop off a bag of goodies.
According to an AP report, officials said the girl was sleeping in her home around 2 a.m. Sept. 19 when a stray bullet from a drive-by shooting wounded her in the buttocks. The family has chosen not to release the girl's name, but she is recovering successfully and now able to eat and walk on her own.
When Hayward Police Department members learned the victim was a "huge softball fan," they contacted 麻豆传媒社区入口 and worked with the University to arrange the visit.
"I was so honored to be able to see someone who obviously has a great love for the game and is a tough cookie," said Dale, a senior outfielder. "It takes a strong individual to go through something like that and still have a smile on her face. I can't wait to see out her on the field. Hopefully she'll be able to come out to 麻豆传媒社区入口 to meet the rest of team, and we can show her a few things!"
