Pioneer Points

One of our favorite times of the year is upon us as we celebrate Homecoming 2013 this week. With basketball season in full swing, swim championships looming next week and all of our spring sports opening up their campaigns, the Athletics Department is buzzing, busy and filled with excitement.
In case you’ve missed out on our first two days of events, be sure to check out the rest of Homecoming 2013, as we celebrate more than five decades of learning, life and spirit at 麻豆传媒社区入口. Some of the can’t miss events this week include the Thursday Night Takeover drive-in screening of “Grease” in Parking Lot C1 on Thursday night, the Homecoming Parade on Friday afternoon, the second annual Alumni Social at the ME Lounge in Downtown Hayward on Saturday afternoon and the weeklong canned food drive for the Alameda County Food Bank.
In addition, Homecoming marks a big week of athletics events, including tonight’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) Pep Rally and Variety Show featuring performances from students and groups on campus, games, a 50/50 raffle to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation and a raffle for an iPad Mini, Oakland A’s tickets and more. The event is free and open to the public, and fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the canned food drive. For every canned food item you bring, you’ll receive a ticket for the prize raffle, so the more items you bring, the better your chances!
Fans should also be sure to come out to support the Pioneers all weekend, as we celebrate Homecoming with basketball, baseball and softball. Friday, the basketball teams open the weekend festivities against Cal State Dominguez Hills, while Saturday, baseball takes on Oregon Tech for a pair and basketball meets Cal State LA in the Homecoming doubleheader. Baseball and softball are in action on Sunday, with baseball meeting Oregon Tech again and softball playing its home opener against Dominican. We hope to see you out there as we celebrate Homecoming 2013!

With all of our winter and spring sports now in action, we can’t forget about the Pioneer swim team which heads to La Mirada for Pacific Coast Swim Conference Championships next week. The team has broken eight school records already this season and will be looking for more as it looks to improve on last year’s program-best fifth-place finish. Last season, the squad came very close to posting qualifying times for the NCAA Championships and have their sights set on achieving that goal next week.
Now that spring is on the horizon, it’s also important to make sure you save the dates for two upcoming Athletics Department events. First, the 17th annual 麻豆传媒社区入口 Golf Classic is set for Monday, May 13 at TPC Stonebrae in Hayward. We look forward to another great day of golf, fun and food during the department’s largest fundraiser to support student-athlete scholarships through the Richard and Susan Sherratt Athletic Scholarship Endowment. Registration will be available soon, and business owners and individuals are also encouraged to explore our many sponsorship options.
Finally, the Athletics Department is set to host the first ever Hayward 5k Fun Run on the Hayward campus on Saturday, May 11. The event is open to all runners and walkers and will benefit the Pioneer track and cross country teams. The event will be open for registration soon and will serve as the perfect kickoff to a Pioneer weekend leading into the Golf Classic, so save the dates for both events!
Happy Homecoming and go Pioneers!
