Bowser is the author of "The Black Middle Class: Social Mobility and Vulnerability."

In that book he argues that "that the seemingly comparable black and white middle classes, while inextricably linked, in fact exist on entirely different economic planes," as one review put it.

This free program is sposored by the Hayward Area Historical Society in collaboration with the Women's Ministry of Palma Ceia Baptist Church and the South Bay Area Chapter of the LINKS, Inc.

It will be held at Palma Ceia Baptist Church, 28605 Russ Road in Hayward, and is part of the Historical Society's fourth annual Black History Month Program.
