New features on campuses greet CSUEB community fall quarter

As faculty members and students, from first-time freshmen to returning graduate students, make their way back to 麻豆传媒社区入口 campuses for fall quarter, they will encounter a few changes to the physical environment in the air and on the ground.
Banners brighten the view
To commemorate the start of the school year and the historic investiture of President Leroy M. Morishita, fifth president for 麻豆传媒社区入口, the Hayward and Concord campuses will be adorned by about 100 large banners featuring the names of each of the four colleges and photos of CSUEB students.
Welcome banners also will be placed at the entrances to campus on Harder Road and Carlos Bee Boulevard; banners for Pioneer Athletics will be installed near the stadium and gymnasium on West Loop Road. At the Concord campus, the banners will begin at the intersection of Ygnacio Valley Road and Campus Drive and continue along the student parking areas.
University Art Director Jesse Cantley said the banners were designed to emphasize the school colors, black and red, and to instill a sense of pride in the University community.
Installation will begin Sept. 28 at both campuses. Each banner measures 30 by 80 inches and is installed with specialized hardware with springs to ensure it withstands the wind and weather.
Giving a charge to clean cars
At the street level, a recently installed charging station will allow drivers of battery-operated cars and motorcycles to “fuel” up while parked in Lot G at the Hayward campus. The charging stations were provided at no cost to the university through the Reconnect California Grant Program, which replaces older charging stations at publicly accessible stations statewide, said Evelyn Munoz, CSUEB energy manager.
Earlier in the year, the university’s Facilities Management Department was contacted by the manufacturer of two charging stations that previously had been in parking lot C, where the Dining Commons now stands, to alert CSUEB officials to the grant, which is funded by the California Energy Commission and the charging station manufacturer.
The dual station — consisting of two 208-volt chargers and a 120-volt station — can charge three vehicles simultaneously.
“They’ve been upgraded to the new charging standard that has been adopted universally for battery-operated vehicles and hybrid plug-in vehicles,” Munoz explained.
An additional station is expected to be installed by Oct. 15.

Newcomers and other visitors to the Hayward campus needing parking information or other guidance will find it at the ready weekdays throughout the school year at information kiosks staffed by Parking Services employees.
On the first day of fall quarter, Parking Officer Carol Baratti staffed the kiosk in Parking Lot N, near the baseball diamond.
Foot traffic at her information booth was not as heavy this day as it was at a second kiosk, found in the small lot at Harder and West Loop roads, but Baratti said she expects it will pick up as students learn about the new service.
“It is nice when they do come by to have someone point them in the right direction, give them a map — especially with today being the first day of classes,” she said. “A lot of it today has been basic questions: Where do I buy a quarter permit? And the infamous: Where’s a parking (ticket) dispenser?”
To the latter question, Baratti points students to the ticket machine standing about five feet from her kiosk.
Information kiosks will be staffed from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to provide temporary parking permits and general information. Additionally, with 48-hour notice, departments may request daily permits or e-permits for pickup up at a kiosk. For details, contact Derrick Lobo at derrick.lobo@csueastbay.edu.
