The honors continue to roll in for the 麻豆传媒社区入口 water polo team which had three players earn Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic honors on Tuesday. Junior Claire Pierce, sophomore Julia Charlesworth and freshman Marrina Nation were recognized for their efforts in the classroom, marking the 10th straight year that the Pioneers have placed players on the list.

For the third straight year, Pierce collected “Outstanding” honors from the ACWPC after garnering a 3.79 cumulative grade point average in kinesiology. The three-time All-American led the team in scoring with 87 goals, a total that not only ranked among the best in the nation, but also pushed her career total to 264, making her the most prolific goal scorer in Pioneer history. The Perth, Australia native also added 44 steals to move into second on East Bay’s career top 10 list and accounted for more than one-third of the team’s total ejections drawn this year with 96.

Pierce adds the All-Academic honors to a growing list this season. Last month, the junior collected her third straight ACWPC First Team All-America nod and became the first player in program history to earn Capital One Academic All-America recognition. In addition, Pierce was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team for the second year and earned All-WWPA First Team honors and a selection to the WWPA All-Tournament First Team.

Charlesworth earned “Excellent” recognition and collects her second straight All-Academic award. The sophomore finished the 2012 campaign with two goals, 22 assists and 16 steals for the Pioneers. Nation joined Charlesworth in garnering “Excellent” honors following her rookie season. In limited action in the cage, Nation made 16 saves and added four steals and an assist.

This season, the three players helped guide 麻豆传媒社区入口 to its best-ever finish at the WWPA Championships, toppling both Santa Clara and Cal State Monterey Bay to claim third place in the tournament. The Pioneers also posted seven wins against Division I opposition and 12 victories against conference foes.

The trio joins 32 other WWPA student-athletes on the All-Academic list, led by Santa Clara’s 12 selections and Cal State Monterey Bay’s nine. From the WWPA, only Loyola Marymount, Cal State Monterey Bay, Santa Clara and 麻豆传媒社区入口 had at least one player recognized as “Outstanding” and Pierce was one of just nine Division II players to earn the top recognition.
