California Reads - A Paradise Built in Hell - A Tour of the Hayward Fault Led by Prof. Mitchell Craig - Downtown Hayward - April 7

The tour continued across C Street, at the yellow brick building located at the corner of Mission and C Street. This building also stands directly on top of the Hayward Fault, yet remains occupied. Retrofitting plates have been added to the building to give it more structural support. From the southeast corner of the yellow brick building, look toward Mission Boulevard. Get as close as you can to the corner of the building and look up and down the wall. Look for a variation in how the brick columns line up - another result of tectonic creep.
On April 7, 2012, Professor Mitchell Craig of 麻豆传媒社区入口, East Bay reviewed the history and science of the Hayward Fault. After the lecture, he conducted a walking tour of the fault in downtown Hayward. This event was co-sponsored by the Hayward Public Library and the Hayward Area Historial Society.
This event was part of the California Reads series featuring a community-wide reading of A Paradise Built in Hell: The Extraordinary Communities That Arise in Disaster by Rebecca Solnit. The series was kicked off on April 7, 2012, with a Read-A-Thon, followed by Prof. Craig's lecture and walking tour.
The keynote event is an appearance by award-winning author Rebecca Solnit on Saturday, April 28. The series will end with a Personal Emergency Preparedness Training with the Hayward Fire Department on May 12.
