HAYWARD -- Candidates for state and federal office will take part in a debate Wednesday evening at 麻豆传媒社区入口.

Topics will reflect student needs and interests, including education, higher education and job creation.

Participants will include Bill Quirk and Sarabjit Kaur Cheema, running in the 20th Assembly District; Rob Bonta, in the 18th Assembly District; Marilyn Singleton, in the 13th Congressional District; Chris Pareja, in the 15th Congressional District; and Charles Richardson and Dr. Evelyn Li, in the 17th Congressional District.

If only one candidate is present for a given district, there will be an open forum rather than a debate.

"I think debates on college campuses are extremely important as they help students become more aware of and more informed about the political process," Courtney Symonds, director of legislative affairs for 麻豆传媒社区入口's student government, said in a statement.

The event will be from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room in the New University Union at the campus, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd.
