Through a new certificate program in integrated energy solutions, 麻豆传媒社区入口, East Bay is partnering with public and private groups to fill the region’s growing need for skilled energy workers. Classes in the certificate program, a collaboration between CSUEB, the Workforce Institute and Pacfic Gas and Electric Co.’s PowerPathway workforce development program, begin March 31.

The green jobs sector has grown three times faster than total employment statewide, with the Bay Area accounting for 28 percent of employment and 26 percent of business in the state’s expanding green economy, according to a January report released by nonprofit research group Next 10.

The four-course certificate offered by 麻豆传媒社区入口 focuses on training technical professionals in designing energy efficient systems for commercial, residential and industrial environments.  
 
This collaboration grew out of a $2 million Green Innovation Challenge Grant awarded last year by the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency to The Workforce Institute, a division of San Jose’s Evergreen Community College District, and Cal State East Bay’s Division of Continuing and International Education. The goal is to encourage business-led partnerships to develop and implement new training strategies that will prepare workers for jobs in a broad range of clean technologies.

Growth in clean energy, smart grids, and energy efficiency has resulted in greater demand for engineers and technical professionals with state-of-the-art skills.

“This unique program is designed to address the need for professionals that can critically analyze and retrofit existing facilities, and design new facilities to increase their energy efficiency,” said Saeid Motavalli, chair of CSUEB’s Engineering Department. He said that the program covers aspects of energy use in commercial, agricultural and residential facilities.

The certificate program is open to students with a bachelor of science or advanced degrees in physical sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics.

“Its courses will help students deliver real-world energy efficiency integration solutions to clients at utilities, architectural, engineering and design firms — green companies with a passion for delivering energy-saving programs and services to consumers,” Motavalli said.
