- December 10, 2010
麻豆传媒社区入口 men’s soccer player Bryce Bookhamer earned a spot on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Performance Subaru Men’s Division II All-West Region Third Team, announced this week. Bookhamer becomes the seventh player in Pioneer history to earn NSCAA All-Region honors, and the first since 2002, following an impressive rookie campaign in 2010.
"It means a great deal that, even though our season wasn’t the best, there are people who see our accomplishments both individually and as a team," Bookhamer said. "It is a true privilege that I am able to accept this award on behalf of myself, my teammates and everyone who has helped to make this achievement possible."
The Pioneers’ starting keeper this season, Bookhamer posted a 3-9-3 record that included East Bay’s first conference win as a member of the CCAA and three shutouts. The Temecula native led the conference in saves, making 149 stops in 17 games to average 8.76 saves per game which ranked third in all of NCAA Division II this season. Bookhamer faced over 400 shots from his opponents and finished third in the CCAA with an .828 save percentage.
"Bryce is an extremely competitive individual who works very hard," CSUEB Head Coach Andy Cumbo said. "He’s also a very good goalkeeper and a strong leader. I am really happy for Bryce."
Bookhamer was at his best under pressure, posting his finest performances against Humboldt State, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Stanislaus. In a historic 3-1 victory over the Jacks, Bookhamer faced 30 shots and made 12 saves to help guide the Pioneers to their first ever CCAA win. Despite facing 41 shots against the Warriors, Bookhamer held Stanislaus scoreless for 110 minutes, making 16 saves. In his most impressive effort of the season, the rookie keeper allowed one goal and made 18 stops while facing 44 shots in a 1-1 draw with the Broncos.
"Physically, Bryce had to do a lot of work and emotionally, he was constantly under pressure," Cumbo said. "That’s a lot to ask a goalkeeper, especially one who is just a freshman. Even though this is an honor for Bryce, he’s probably happier for the program to be recognized rather than himself."
Bookhamer is one of just 33 players in the West Region to be recognized by the NSCAA. The region is comprised of 26 Division II institutions from the CCAA, Pacific West and Great Northwest Athletic Conferences. Bookhamer joined 17 other players from the CCAA on the All-Region Teams, including seven first team honorees.
