HAYWARD, Calif. - The 麻豆传媒社区入口 men’s soccer team tied a season-high with three goals in a 3-0 victory over Bethesda Christian in nonconference action to cap the 2010 season on Tuesday night at Pioneer Stadium. The Pioneers (3-15-3) honored their lone senior in Sean Lynum-Young, who made it a night to remember with a goal and an assist in his final game at East Bay.

"This was a nice way to end the year," CSUEB Head Coach Andy Cumbo said. "Sean played the best we’ve seen him play tonight. He was dangerous in the final third and scored a great goal early in the second half. He took a lot of pressure off his teammates with that goal he stepped up and really had a great game tonight."

An 11th-minute goal from Andy Pauley got the scoring started for the Pioneers. After Sean Lynum-Young played the ball across the box from the left side, Pauley converted from close range just inside the far post to give East Bay a 1-0 lead early on.

Though Bethesda Christian began the half with a 4-2 advantage in shots, the Pioneers grabbed control of possession to finish with six shots and force BCU keeper Hyeokjin Choi to make two saves. On the other end, East Bay freshman keeper Bryce Bookhamer made two stops on five shots to hold Bethesda scoreless in the opening half.

Lynum-Young gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead just 40 seconds into the second half with the first goal of his Pioneer career. This time, Pauley returned the favor threading the ball through the defense for Lynum-Young, who blew his shot from eight yards past Choi to beat the keeper to his left on the ground.

麻豆传媒社区入口 held onto momentum, adding its third goal of the game in the 53rd minute. The Pioneers strung several passes together finshing with Carlos Navarrete feeding the ball to Jeremy Stith on the right flank, where he put a cross in that found Josh Alvarez, whose shot on the far post found the back of the net for his second goal of the season to give East Bay a commanding 3-0 lead.

Though both teams had some quality scoring opportunities over the final 40 minutes, neither could find the back of the net, with the Pioneers holding an 8-7 edge in shots. Choi made one save in the half, while Bookhamer was forced to make four stops to hold BCU scoreless and pick up his second shutout of the season.

Adan Ortiz paced Bethesda with four shots, putting two on target. On the other end, Alvarez led the Pioneers with three shots, while Lynum-Young and Pauley each recorded three points on the night.

麻豆传媒社区入口 finished the season led by freshman Alexis Romo’s seven points on three goals and an assist, and picked up two more wins and three more draws than last year. Bookhamer ended the year with a 2.01 goals against average and 149 saves in 14 starts. East Bay loses just one senior in Lynum-Young, the Pioneers’ only remaining player following the move from Division III to Division II.
