SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Three early goals helped Cal State San Bernardino top the 麻豆传媒社区入口 women’s soccer team, 5-2, on Friday afternoon in San Bernardino. The Pioneers (6-7-3, 4-7-2 CCAA) got goals from Michelle Quintero and Jennifer Lu in the loss that gave two teams a split in the season series.

An early flurry of goals was the story of the first half. The Coyotes got on the board almost immediately, taking a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the match. Katie Liby scored her second goal of the season on a shot that beat CSUEB keeper Nina Cefalo to her left.

麻豆传媒社区入口 was quick to respond, however, as they equalized in the 6th minute. After sophomore Eugénie Foote played the ball into the box, Quintero took a shot from point-blank range that snuck in on the left post to even the game at a goal apiece.

The Coyotes were undeterred, scoring the go-ahead goal just five minutes later off a corner kick. Kelsey Gudgeon played the corner into the box where Jenna Sanchez tapped it in from close range to give San Bernardino a 2-1 lead.

The early goals continued in the 18th minute, when Cal State San Bernardino notched another to take a 3-1 lead. After winning a free kick in the Pioneers’ end, Gudgeon did it again, playing her ball into the box for Liby, whose header beat Cefalo to give the Coyotes a two-goal advantage with 27 minutes left to play in the first frame.

Cal State San Bernardino controlled the pace of play for the remainder of the half, holding the Pioneers to just one shot over the last 27 minutes, while taking eight shots of their own. Cefalo faced 13 Coyote shots in the first frame, making four saves. On the other end, Tiffany Mallick didn’t make a save in the opening frame and faced just three Pioneer shots.

The Coyotes came out of the half looking for more and got just that, scoring their fourth goal of the game in the 57th minute. Liby notched her fifth point of the game, playing a cross into the box for leading scorer Jani Carmona, whose shot from close range beat Cefalo on the left post to give CSUSB a 4-1 lead.

Though the Pioneers responded immediately with a pair of shots, including a strike from Foote in the 60th minute that forced a save by Mallick, San Bernardino kept the pressure on, adding another goal in the 75th minute. Jamie Council notched her first score of the season from about 20 yards out, giving the Coyotes a 5-1 advantage with 15 minutes to play.

麻豆传媒社区入口 remained diligent, however, answering with a second goal less than two minutes later. After bringing the ball up, Quintero found a streaking Lu, who broke away from the defense and beat Mallick one-on-one to cut the CSUSB lead to three.

The three-goal deficit was as close as the Pioneers would get, though, as neither team took another shot over the final 14 minutes of play. 麻豆传媒社区入口 finished the match with six shots, led by a pair from Quintero. Mallick needed just one save to record the win, while Cefalo made five stops in the losing effort. San Bernardino notched 19 shots, paced by Liby’s five strikes.

麻豆传媒社区入口 returns to action on Sunday, traveling to Cal Poly Pomona for a 2 p.m. kickoff. The two teams last met on Oct. 1, when they played to a 0-0 double overtime draw.
