HAYWARD, Calif. - Playing overtime for the fourth time in the last six games, the 麻豆传媒社区入口 women's soccer team earned a scoreless draw with Chico State on Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Stadium. The Pioneers (6-6-3, 4-6-2 CCAA) played their second overtime game of the weekend and came away with the point to improve to 1-0-3 in extra time this season.
In a scoreless first half, the Wildcats held a 9-6 advantage in shots. Both keepers made three saves in the half, with sophomore Shianna Falk pacing the Pioneers with three shots and Melissa Pease and Carly Singer leading the Wildcats with a pair of shots apiece.
The Pioneers had one of their best chances of the half in the 25th minute. After winning a corner kick, Falk played a ball into the box that bounced around before finding Gail Bassett whose shot was stopped by Chico State keeper Megan Foster.
The Wildcats responded with their own chance, as Abby Glasgow put a shot off the crossbar and creating a scramble in the box. The rebound found Ashley Perlman whose shot was blocked before it was sent out of bounds for a goal kick, ending the threat.
The second half saw more of the same from both teams, who were evenly matched, as the Pioneers took seven shots to the Wildcats' five. Chico State put four of its five shots on goal, however, forcing CSUEB keeper Nina Cefalo to make four stops to maintain the shutout and send the teams to overtime.
The Wildcats controlled possession in the first overtime period, taking three shots and forcing Cefalo to make one save. Chico, however, could not find the back of the net, sending the Pioneers to double overtime for the fourth time this season.
Chico had two of their best chances near the end of the second overtime, but could not get past Cefalo to earn the victory. After having their corner cleared, the Wildcats got the ball back outside the box where Perlman ripped a shot that Cefalo caught just in front of the line. Singer followed a minute later with a blast that looked set to sneak in under the crossbar but sailed just high.
Cefalo finished the match with a season-high 10 saves on Chico State's 20 shots, earning her second shutout of the season. Foster posted five saves while facing 13 shots in the draw. Singer paced the Wildcats with five shots, including two on goal, while Falk's five strikes led the Pioneers.
The Pioneers hit the road again next weekend, traveling to Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona for their penultimate road trip of the season. 麻豆传媒社区入口 will meet the Coyotes on Friday, Oct. 22 at 12:30 p.m.
