HAYWARD, Calif. - The 麻豆传媒社区入口 men's soccer team played through double overime with Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, ending in a 1-1 draw with the Broncos after 110 minutes of play. The Pioneers (2-6-2, 1-4-2 CCAA) scored first and held on for the draw despite being out-shot 44-8 in the match.

"We probably broke a record for shots against and my keeper probably needs a new pair of gloves," CSUEB Head Coach Andy Cumbo said. "Cal Poly Pomona is a very good team and they're impressive going forward. We played great and deserved the point we earned. We had a lot of personnel changes and our very young program took another positive step forward."

Freshman keeper Bryce Bookhamer was the hero of the night, making a career-high 18 saves and feeling the pressure of 44 Cal Poly Pomona shots. The Temecula native got help from the backline that helped him hold the Broncos scoreless for the final 50 minutes of the match, facing 21 shots and blocking six during that span.

The Pioneers got the scoring started in the 17th minute on just their second shot of the game. After East Bay won a free kick just outside the penalty area, sophomore defender Michael Dowson played the ball on the ground and into the box for a waiting Mike Rossi. The sophomore defender finished with a low shot from five yards out to beat Pomona keeper James Iles and give East Bay a 1-0 lead. The goal was Rossi's first of the year, while the assist marked Dowson's second in two games.

Minutes later, the Pioneers looked to be on the verge of scoring again as Iles pushed out a shot from junior Brett Souza before Rossi and Dowson nearly connected again on a corner kick to force another Iles save. From there, however, the Broncos controlled much of the possession, holding East Bay without a shot for the final 20 minutes of the first half. Despite facing six Pomona shots over the last 20 minutes before the break, the Pioneers held on to maintain the goal-advantage to end the first frame.

The second half saw the Broncos come out firing, notching six shots in the first 10 minutes, seeing one shot blocked by the defense and another saved by Bookhamer. Cal Poly Pomona finally broke through in the 60th minute, as Ricardo Reyes' shot from six yards found the back of the net to tie things up at a goal apiece.

麻豆传媒社区入口 responded immediately, looking to regain its advantage. The Pioneers notched three straight corners, but could not find the back of the net as freshman Paul Dewhurst connected but had his shot blocked and Souza's strike forced a save from Iles.

The Broncos regained momentum, finishing the half by not allowing a Pioneer shot over the final 27 minutes, while posting nine shots of their own during that time. Cal Poly Pomona could not get past Bookhamer and the Pioneer defense, however, as the two teams ended regulation locked at 1-1.

麻豆传媒社区入口 got its best chance of the first overtime just 14 seconds into the frame, as Souza's shot after a pass from the kickoff forced Iles to make the save. From there, the Broncos threw everything they had at Bookhamer, but the rookie keeper made five point-blank saves in the first period of extra time to take the match into a second overtime.

The final frame spelled more of the same for the Broncos, who posted five shots in the second period of extra time. Bookhamer and the Pioneer defense foiled Cal Poly Pomona's plans again, however, saving both shots on goal and blocking two others to pick up the point and end in the 1-1 draw.

The Pioneers were led by Souza's three shots, all of which were on goal. 麻豆传媒社区入口 put six of its eight shots on target, forcing five saves from Iles. Bookhamer's 18 impressive saves came after facing eight shots apiece from Reyes and Luis Gonzalez, which led all players. The Pioneers also added eight blocked shots to help pick up their second straight point in conference play.

麻豆传媒社区入口 returns to action on Sunday when they play host to No. 16 Cal State San Bernardino. The Pioneers and Coyotes are set to begin at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium.
