ARCATA, Calif. – On the strength of first-half goals from Gail Bassett and Eugénie Foote, the 麻豆传媒社区入口 women's soccer team posted a 2-1 win over Humboldt State on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers (4-2-1, 2-2-0 CCAA) allowed a second-half goal but held off the Jacks to record their second straight conference victory after toppling Sonoma State on Friday.

"Our team executed the game plan very well in the first half," CSUEB Head Coach Amy Gerace said. "The second half was very emotional and extremely intense. I'm happy to get the second win this weekend and get back on the road."

麻豆传媒社区入口 got the scoring started in the 27th minute. After winning a corner, Bassett got her head on a ball in the box to beat Humboldt State keeper Jennie Paugh and give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. The goal was Bassett's second of the season.

Though the Jacks and Pioneers both notched four shots in the half, East Bay gained a 2-0 advantage late in the first frame. After junior Jessica Hamister played a cross into the box in the 35th minute, Foote finished it, sending an upper-90 shot in on the far post. The assist marked Hamister's second of the weekend, while Foote scored her first goal of the year.

Freshman keeper Donna Williams needed just one save to keep Humboldt State scoreless in the first half, while Paugh didn't make a save in the opening 45 minutes.

Trailing 2-0, the Jacks came out of the break with renewed energy, out-shooting the Pioneers 11-5 and forcing three saves from Williams in the second frame. In the 61st minute, Humboldt State's aggressive play paid off, as Arielle Kern found the back of the net on a header off a long free kick from Sarah Nakamoto.

Though the Jacks cut the lead to just one, the Pioneer defense persevered, maintaining the lead thanks to solid work in the back from Bassett, Jasmine Stephens, Shannon Fontes and Tenaya Davis. Bassett and Fontes both played the full 90 minutes and helped bolster a backline that allowed just one goal on the weekend.

"Gail Bassett did such a great job this weekend," Gerace said. "She helped keep us organized on defense and was an exceptional ball winner."

The Pioneers were led by Foote's five shots, while Williams made four saves to post her fourth win of the season. The Jacks out-shot East Bay 15-9 in the loss, with Kern leading all players with six shots.

麻豆传媒社区入口 will finish its four-game road trip next weekend when it travels across the Bay to San Francisco State before meeting Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside. The Pioneers and Gators are set for a 3 p.m. kickoff on Sept. 24.
