Pioneer men's cross country season preview
- September 3, 2010
HAYWARD, Calif. - The 2010 Pioneer men's cross country team will begin their second year of competition in NCAA Division II and California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) this weekend.
Four runners return from last season including junior Francisco Pulido and sophomore Erik Rodriguez.
Pulido recorded a time of 29:34.1 at the 2009 CCAA Championships and led the team with a 20th place showing at the Westmont Invitational.
Rodriguez was named CCAA All-Academic and recorded a time of 29:41.6 to finish fourth among East Bay runners.
John Erlandson returns for his senior campaign while John Vergara, Scott Pallesen and Antonio Arredondo add experience to the team.
Freshman Chris Gallagher, from Truckee High School, will make an immediate impact in 2010.
"We have good runners returning from last year," CSUEB Head Coach Greg Ryan said. "Some of our athletes will be able to run under 30 minutes in meets during the 2010 campaign. Our big question mark will be the lack of depth on the team."
