Despite making steady progress, Humboldt State volleyball remained win-less on the young season, falling in four sets to 麻豆传媒社区入口 in California Collegiate Athletic Association action Saturday.

The loss drops the Lumberjacks to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in CCAA matches. They'll continue to seek their first win of the year this week with their third straight roadtrip, traveling to play Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus this weekend.

On Saturday, the Jacks received strong efforts from hitters Taylor Manuel, who finished with 12 kills, and Oceana Matsubu, who added 11. The all-around play of versatile setter Jo Arzadon also helped keep the match close throughout.

”Jo was solid again, and our middles played better,” HSU head coach Sue Woodstra said. “We're getting better. We're starting to compete and make plays when it gets tight.”

Humboldt State started slowly, dropping the first set, 25-17. 麻豆传媒社区入口 finished the set with a kill by Katie Allen, who led all players with 13 kills on the evening.

In the second set, an impressive surge brought the Jacks right back from the brink of being down two sets. Kills by Allison Drobish, Manuel and Matsubu fueled a six-point rush that held off set point and earned a 27-25 win to even the match at one set apiece.

麻豆传媒社区入口 battled back to gain the 2-1 lead with a three-point victory in the third set, and ended the match with the same score in the fourth set.

Matsubu also led HSU with 14 digs on the evening, and Arzadon contributed 31 assists. Toni Kroeker turned in an outstanding blocking effort, finishing with five solos and three block assists.
