MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. -
The 麻豆传媒社区入口 softball team fell in the first two games of its series with Humboldt State on Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers (12-22, 5-17 CCAA) dropped a 5-0 decision in game one before the Jacks broke a tie in the bottom of the seventh inning to take game two, 5-4.

The opener saw Humboldt State's Gracie Perez allow just two hits and faced just three over the minimum in the shutout victory. Perez struck out seven and walked three to pick up her seventh win of the season.

Offensively, the Jacks got to Pioneer junior starter Cat Schorn in the second inning, notching three hits and scoring one on an RBI single from Lindsay Warren. Humboldt State held onto the 1-0 lead through the next two and a half innings before adding another four runs on four hits and an error in the bottom of the fifth.

Schorn took the loss, after allowing five runs on 11 hits and striking out one in six innings of work. Senior catcher Rachelle Boone and junior center fielder Nikki Freiberg notched the Pioneers only hits on the day.

Game two saw the Pioneer offense bounce back, as Freiberg and freshman designated player Sara Holdridge both got on in the top of the second, matching East Bay's hit total from the first game. Despite CSUEB getting runners on, Humboldt State starter Vaneza Hoover closed out the inning to keep the teams locked in a scoreless tie.

HSU got on the board in the bottom of the second, taking a 1-0 lead on a Kristen Nouzovsky homer. The Jacks added another pair in the bottom of the third after Sammi Gilbert led off with a homer and Nouzovsky drove in her second run of the game with a sacrifice fly, giving Humboldt a 3-0 lead through three innings.

After being held scoreless early on, the Pioneers broke through in the top of the fourth. Freshman Emily Montanez drew a leadoff walk before Boone singled to center and Freiberg walked to load the bases for Holdridge. After Holdridge hit into a fielder's choice and Humboldt got pinch runner Sarah Davini out at home, sophomore Breezy Johnson stepped in and drove a single to right, driving in two runs to cut the HSU lead to one. The hit drove Hoover from the game in favor of Perez who walked freshman Devon Mercurio to load the bases with one out. Junior Chelsea McEachran followed with a single to right to bring in another pair and give the Pioneers a 4-3 lead.

The Jacks answered immediately, getting its third homer of the game off the bat of Lindsay Warren to tie things up 4-4. After a quiet sixth and top of the seventh, Humboldt State took care of game two in the bottom of the seventh. After a one-out double and a walk, reliever Schorn walked Nouzovsky with two outs to load the bases before walking in the game-winning run to give the Jacks the sweep.

Perez picked up her second win of the day, shutting out the Pioneers and allowing just two hits, while striking out five in 3.2 innings of work. Schorn took the loss, allowing one run and one hit and walking three in 1.1 innings.

Freiberg finished the day 3-for-5 with one run, while Johnson drove in a pair, scored one and went 1-for-3 and McEachran went 1-for-3 with two RBI in game two to lead the Pioneers.
