The message from the university is clear: Scholarship support is both vital and valued at 麻豆传媒社区入口.

That idea will be reinforced at this year's Presidential Scholars Benefit and Awards Gala to be held April 10 at CSUEB's Hayward campus. The annual event supports the Presidential Scholarship Fund, which provides significant financial aid to high-achieving regional students.

Scholarships and financial aid awards are very important for students deciding on a college, said Bob Burt, vice president of University Advancement. "When we can offer these full tuition packages, 麻豆传媒社区入口 moves up the list of desirable schools and attracts more outstanding high school students," he said.

Tickets for the gala are $150 per attendee, with net proceeds going to the scholarship fund. Presidential Scholarship awards cover a student's tuition for a full four years at 麻豆传媒社区入口. This year, seven students chosen to receive scholarships will be honored at the event.

"It's wonderful that we're able to offer the opportunity for a college education to these students this year, especially in today's economic climate," Burt said.

"When I received the scholarship acceptance letter, I felt very honored and very happy," said Anna Le, one of the students who will be honored at the event. Le, a biological sciences major from San Jose, said that she is proud of her past academic achievements but "this, as a matter of fact, encourages me to keep striving for the top in education."

The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a social hour at the Pioneer Heights Dining Commons, including cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and a showcase of student art. Student musicians will also perform as part of a jazz ensemble and accompaniment with dinner.

"We're excited to be hosting this important event on campus for the first time, and in our beautiful new dining commons," said Eileen Mello, donor relations manager. "It's the perfect setting to highlight the University's rich multicultural environment, connect with old friends and new, and enjoy the wonderful view."

The dinner menu will feature international cuisine and guests are encouraged to wear semi-formal cultural dress, Mello added.

In addition to honoring the student scholarship recipients, the award program also recognizes the achievements of the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year and Young Alumnus of the Year. This year, Patrick Devine '87, MBA '91 was selected as the Alumnus of the Year, and Robert Litton '00, MA '02 was named the Young Alumnus of the Year. (Read the full news article from April 2010.) Devine and Litton will be profiled in an upcoming issue of 麻豆传媒社区入口 Magazine.

Tickets may be purchased through April 7 by contacting Eileen Mello at (510) 885-2849 or eileen.mello@csueastbay.edu. Dinner, entertainment and parking are included. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. View or download the invitation (PDF).
