Pioneers Edged by San Francisco State, 4-3

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Pioneers lost a tough 4-3 decision to San Francisco State in the first matchup of a four-game series on March 19. 

Stephen Gatehouse opened the game with a home run to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead. 麻豆传媒社区入口 took a 2-1 advantage in the fourth on a Charlie Sharrer groundout which scored Devin Grigg.

The Gators tied the game in the fourth and pushed across an unearned run in the seventh to take a 3-2 lead.

Richie Gonzalez opened the eighth inning with a single and later scored on a Grigg double as the Pioneers tied the game 3-3.

San Francisco State scored the go ahead run in the bottom of the eighth highlighted by a Ben Mielke run scoring single.

The Pioneers received a solid pitching performance from starter Matt McCormick who allowed three runs on six hits with three strikeouts in seven innings. Gatehouse had two hits.

With the victory, San Francisco State is now 4-9 in CCAA play and 10-15 overall. 麻豆传媒社区入口 stands at 3-14 in CCAA action and 6-17-1 for the season.

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 麻豆传媒社区入口. The first game will begin at 11 a.m.
