Josewski's Walk-Off Homer Highlights Pioneers' Dramatic Victory Over Patten

HAYWARD, Calif. -
Levi Josewski hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth as the Pioneers rallied from a 9-0 deficit to defeat visiting Patten University 12-11 on March 31.

Patten University scored seven runs on seven hits to take a 7-0 lead in the second inning. The Lions added two more runs in the fourth to increase their lead to 9-0. 

Alex Anicich had a run scoring single while Jeff Croft doubled in another run as the Pioneers scored twice in the fourth inning.

The Pioneers closed the gap to 9-6 with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Devin Grigg hit a two-run homer while Nick McManus drove in Croft with the fourth run of the inning.

Trailing 11-6, the Pioneers tied the game with five runs in the bottom of the seventh. Anicich singled to drive in Grigg with the first run. Aaron Brown’s sacrifice fly drove in Anicich with the second run while Josewski walked with the bases loaded to make the score 11-9. James McShane two-run single tied the game.

Josewski led off the ninth inning and hit a 3-1 pitch over the centerfield fence to win the game for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers had 15 hits including four extra base hits. Grigg, Josewski, and Anicich each drove in two runs while Croft was 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Reliever Cody Hazen hurled a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his first win of the season.
