Pierce Named WWPA Player of the Week

HAYWARD, Calif. - 麻豆传媒社区入口 women's water polo player Claire Pierce earned Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Player of the Week honors on Wednesday, after helping the Pioneers notch three wins over Division I opponents last weekend. The Perth, Australia native contributed seven goals during East Bay's 3-1 weekend in which all of its wins came over conference teams.

A freshman utility, Pierce made the most of her second tournament with the Pioneers, scoring seven goals and adding four assists and eight steals. Pierce also drew an impressive 24 ejections in four games, a total higher than many players draw over the course of an entire season.

Pierce scored a pair of goals in the 10-9 overtime win over No. 17 Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday, putting one away in the fourth and another in the first overtime. On Sunday, Pierce added two more goals in the early morning matchup with Colorado State and scored one of the Pioneers' three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter comeback win over Santa Clara.

The freshman also scored two in the tournament-opening loss to then-No. 9 Hartwick. She has now posted 10 goals just eight games into her collegiate career.

The 19th-ranked Pioneers return to action this weekend, playing host to Cal Lutheran on Friday at 4 p.m. and Fresno Pacific on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Pioneer Pool. 麻豆传媒社区入口 then travels to Rohnert Park for the final day of the Seawolf Splash to face Sonoma State and UC Davis on Sunday.
