Pioneers Defeat Cal State Monterey Bay, 7-5

HAYWARD, Calif. - The Pioneer baseball team improved to 2-1 for the season following a 7-5 non-conference victory over visiting Cal State Monterey Bay on February 10. 

麻豆传媒社区入口 struck for three runs in the first inning highlighted by RBI singles off the bats of Devin Grigg, Levi Josewski, and John Howard. Nolan Murray’s two-run double and a run scoring single by Brent Sargenti enabled Cal State Monterey Bay to tie the game in the top of the second inning. The Pioneer took a 4-3 in the bottom of the second on a two-out run scoring triple off the bat of Alex Anicich.

After the Otters tied the game 4-4 with a run in the top of the third, the Pioneers scored twice in the fourth inning to take the lead for good. With one out, Stephen Gatehouse singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Alex Anicich.  McManus singled moving Anicich to third. Anicich scored on a base hit by Josewski. The Pioneers scored their final run in the sixth inning as Anicich singled and crossed the plate on a Josewski triple.

Rich Kemp, the second of five Pioneer pitchers, allowed one run while recording four strikeouts in three innings to pick up the win. Devin Grigg retired the side in order with two strikeouts in the ninth inning to record the save.

The Pioneers will open CCAA play with a four-game series at Chico State on February 12-14.
