Pioneers Open Season with Exhibition Loss

HAYWARD, Calif. – The 麻豆传媒社区入口 women's water polo team kicked off its 2010 season with a tough exhibition against the Olympic Club on Sunday at Pioneer Pool, falling to the San Francisco-based team, 12-8. The Olympic Club, comprised mostly of former Division I players, scored three unanswered goals in the final frame to secure the victory.
After getting off to a slow start in the first period, the Pioneers trailed 4-2, but scored four goals in the second and two in the third while allowing five for the opposition during that span. East Bay trailed by just one goal, 7-6, at the half and matched the Olympic Club in the third to head into the decisive fourth down by one, 9-8.
Junior two meter and returning leading scorer Liz Warren notched two goals, while senior utility Jenna Casady and junior transfer Whitney Bell each added two goals apiece. Senior two meter Brianna Finney and junior driver Ana Rosa rounded out the score sheet for East Bay.
Former Loyola Marymount driver Kira Shymanski led the Olympic Club with three scores, while 2004 Olympic bronze medalist Margie Dingledein, former Stanford driver Kris Koblik and Molly Hafferkamp posted two goals apiece. Olympic Club goalie Meridith McColl, another former Cardinal, made some key saves in the final frame to help secure the win.
The Pioneers return to action next week as they host their annual Alumni Game on Jan. 23. Regular season action begins Jan. 30 at the Northern California Invitational at Cal, while the 麻豆传媒社区入口 home opener is scheduled for Noon on Feb. 7 against Cal State Monterey Bay.
