  • January 23, 2010

HAYWARD, Calif. - The 麻豆传媒社区入口 women's water polo team dominated the alumni in the high-scoring affair that was Saturday's annual alumni game. The 2010 edition of the squad came away with a 17-4 victory. Freshman utility Claire Pierce posted five goals in her first appearance for the Pioneers, while Lauren Binner led the alumni with two goals.

The Pioneers got the scoring started right away, with Pierce and junior two-meter Liz Warren putting East Bay on the board. Meanwhile, the East Bay defense held the alumni scoreless in the opening quarter to give the Pioneers a 3-0 lead after eight minutes of play.

The youngsters continued to dominate in the second quarter. Despite allowing goals from the alumni's Tricia Vieira and Kelly Flaherty, the Pioneers responded with seven goals of their own, including another pair from Pierce and single goals from freshman Chelsie Bryan and juniors Danielle Comforti, Tristan Kennedy, Whitney Bell and Ana Rosa. The scoring barrage gave the Pioneers a 10-2 lead at the break.

East Bay's offensive outburst wasn't over, however, as they added another five goals in the third quarter, while allowing just a single goal for Binner. Junior driver Mary Rosa put away two in the third and was joined on the scoresheet by Pierce, Bell and junior Jenna Gelet to give the Pioneers a 15-3 advantage heading into the final quarter.

The Pioneers added another two goals in the fourth from Bryan and junior two-meter Allie Glogovac, while Binner scored another for the alumni.

麻豆传媒社区入口 opens the regular season next weekend, when it heads north to Cal for the Northern California Invitational. The Pioneers kick off the tournament on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m., when it takes on Pacific.
