ARCATA, Calif. - Poor shooting and turnovers doomed the 麻豆传媒社区入口 women's basketball team in a 82-43 loss to Humboldt State on Saturday night at Lumberjack Arena. The Pioneers (0-16, 0-11 CCAA) hit just 24 percent of their shots from the field and struggled on the boards, but were led by a pair of freshman centers in Marlene MacMillan, who posted 12 points, and Lauren Lucchesi, who pulled down 11 rebounds in the loss.

The Jacks (12-4, 10-2) jumped out to an early 12-2 lead in the first half and never led by fewer than 10 points again. MacMillan opened the scoring for the Pioneers with a layup at the 16:49 mark, before East Bay was held without a field goal for nearly nine minutes, allowing Humboldt to build a 24-5 lead midway through the half. 麻豆传媒社区入口 shot just 20.8 percent from the floor in the first frame, with MacMillan hitting three of its five field goals.

On the other end, Humboldt State was rolling on all cylinders, hitting nearly half of their shots, including six three pointers. The Jacks led by 18 with four minutes left before closing the half with a 13-5 run. Defensively, Humboldt State notched seven steals and forced 11 turnovers. The Pioneers found redemption at the free throw line, going 10-for-15 from the charity stripe in the half, but went to the break trailing 46-20.

The second half saw more of the same from the Jacks, as they shot 41.7 percent from three-point range and forced another 15 East Bay turnovers. The Pioneers continued to struggle offensively, scoring just 23 points and shooting 28 percent from the floor. After being held scoreless for almost eight minutes to open the final stanza, MacMillan dropped in a layup at the 12:32 mark. The Humboldt lead, which was a large as 41 in the second half, was too much to overcome for the Pioneers however.

MacMillan was a bright spot for East Bay, scoring 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the floor in 21 minutes off the bench. The Tracy native added four rebounds and a block in just her third game back after missing 10 games due to injury. Lucchesi led the Pioneers on the glass with 11 rebounds, but was held to a scoreless 0-for-6 from the field. Junior point guard Claudia Nelson added 10 points and three steals for the Pioneers.

Three players in double figures led Humboldt State, as senior guard Andrea Bobic paced all players with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from three-point range. Bobic was joined in double digits by senior center Brittney Bobic and freshman forward Kristen Huffman, who posted 17 and 10 points, respectively. Sophomore forward Bree Halsey cleaned up on the boards with 14 rebounds and finishing one point shy of a double-double. The Jacks finished the game shooting 41.8 percent from the field and out-rebounding East Bay 55-31.

麻豆传媒社区入口 will return to action next week at home, as it kicks off the second half of the CCAA season hunting for its first victory of the 2009-10 campaign. The Pioneers will open a four-game homestand on Thursday, Jan. 28, playing host to Cal State San Bernardino at 5:30 p.m. at Pioneer Gym.
