A variety of on-campus and off-campus performers will contribute to 麻豆传媒社区入口, East Bay’s First Annual Queer Dance Festival Feb. 11. The event will be presented as part of QueerFest, a week-long, cross-campus collection of events held each February.
About 35 CSUEB students will be involved as performers, technical crew and volunteers in the two-hour program, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the University Theatre on the Hayward campus, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd., Hayward. Performance styles will span modern, dance/theater, Argentine tango, experimental music and more. Admission will be free.
Eric Kupers, assistant professor of theatre and dance, who has been on the QueerFest planning committee for three years, volunteered to provide local curation of this year’s dance performance.
“For a number of years in the late 1990s there was a Lesbian and Gay Dance Festival in San Francisco, but ever since that ended, there has been a hole in Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender specific dance programming. We are hoping this will become an important event throughout the Bay Area,” said Kupers.
The festival is presented by the Department of Theatre and Dance, College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences, The QueerFest Planning Committee and Associated Students, Inc., with participation by Dandelion Dancetheater, Navarrete x Kajiyama Dance Theater, Nina Haft and Company, Sean Dorsey, and Jose Navarrete, who has created a new work with CSUEB students.
