Patelco Credit Union partners with Pioneer athletics for 'Piggy Bank' fundraiser

- January 7, 2010
Joining millions in the fight against breast cancer and supporting children with life-threatening diseases, the 麻豆传媒社区入口 Pioneers and San Francisco-based Patelco Credit Union will sponsor the Pioneer Piggy Bank Project, "Save Change...Change Lives," at home basketball games this season.
At each home game for men's and women's basketball, fans will receive a Patelco piggy bank to collect their change. They can donate the change when they come to the following home game. The funds collected will benefit the Make-A-Wish foundation and the Kay Yow Breast Cancer Fund.
"Patelco's approach to community outreach combines both financial and volunteer support," said Veronica Dangerfield, Patelco Generation Y Business Development Manager. "We encourage our employees to get involved in their local communities and to support programs that make a positive difference. We see this partnership as a great way to combine Patelco and Pioneer Athletics to support the service efforts of the 'communiveristy' of 麻豆传媒社区入口."
Patelco is one of the largest and most successful credit unions in the country, offering traditional banking services as well as investments, insurance and home loans. The credit union has a branch on 麻豆传媒社区入口's Hayward campus.
"This project is an excellent way to partner with our sponsors in their own community support," 麻豆传媒社区入口 Director of Athletics Debby De Angelis said. "Together our Student-Athlete Advisory Council and Patelco will encourage savings for two great causes."
A key part of the 麻豆传媒社区入口 Athletics Department mission, community engagement is also a major focus for the NCAA Division II. Make-A-Wish is an NCAA Division II Student-Athlete project, and Division II athletics programs across the country have raised more than $1 million for the organization since 2003. The Kay Yow Foundation was established by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) to honor former North Carolina State coach Kay Yow, a pioneer in women's basketball who lost her life to breast cancer. These two charities together are a great community engagement project for the 2009-10 basketball season, said De Angelis.
The Piggy Bank project kicks off Jan. 7 when the Pioneer basketball teams host Cal State Stanislaus. The women tip off at 5:30 p.m.; the men's game begins at 7 p.m. at Pioneer Gym.
