Three to receive honorary doctorates from 麻豆传媒社区入口

HAYWARD — 麻豆传媒社区入口 plans to honor a philanthropist, an accomplished author and a corporate board member during commencement ceremonies June 13 and 14 on the school's campuses in Hayward and Concord, university officials said.
Receiving honorary doctorate degrees will be:
- Leo Fontana, 85, known as the "father of modern Antioch" for his influence on the growth and development of the city.
- Khaled Hosseini, 44, author of the international best-selling novel "The Kite Runner," which has sold more than 10 million copies in 48 countries.
- Scott Kriens, 51, chairman of Sunnyvale-based Juniper Networks, an information technology and computer networking company.
"The three honorees are Bay Area residents who ... have distinguished themselves by making major contributions in their communities, professions or both," said Bob Burt, vice president for university advancement at 麻豆传媒社区入口.
Fontana, a longtime Contra Costa County businessman and philanthropist, also has helped develop County East Mall, East County Bank, Delta Memorial Hospital and the Antioch Senior Center. He will receive his honorary degree June 13 on 麻豆传媒社区入口's Concord campus.
Hosseini, a native of Afghanistan, is the son of a former diplomat for Afghanistan's Foreign Ministry. He will receive his honorary degree June 14 from 麻豆传媒社区入口's College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences on the Hayward campus.
Kriens, who earned his bachelor's degree in economics from the former Cal State Hayward in 1979, will receive his honorary degree June 14 from 麻豆传媒社区入口's College of Business and Economics on the Hayward campus.
