After 26 years with the university, Dr. Jagdish Agrawal — dean of 麻豆传媒社区入口’s College of Business and Economics — has announced his retirement at the end of January.

Under Agrawal’s direction, the CBE was able to establish two new master’s degrees — one in accountancy and the other in business analytics. He also started a Career Development Center and helped gain recognition for the college from ranking websites like College Choice and U.S. News and Review.

Agrawal, who was named dean in 2013, also played a key role in hiring more than 10 new faculty for the college during his tenure, securing accreditation through the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and increasing the number of scholarships available to students.

President Leroy M. Morishita said Agrawal has served the university and college in an “exemplary fashion” and recognized his efforts to secure the AACSB accreditation and create an award-winning program.

“I am grateful to him for his leadership and legacy of excellence that have impacted the lives of our students, graduates, faculty and staff,” Morishita said. “On behalf of the university, I would like to thank Dean Agrawal for all he has accomplished and wish him the very best in the years to come."

Agrawal said he will fondly remember his time at 麻豆传媒社区入口, especially working with students in the Transnational Executive MBA program on their consulting projects and traveling with them to different countries to present research findings.

“I will dearly miss working with the department chairs, program directors, faculty and staff … who are poised to take the business school to new heights in terms of providing quality education and support services to improve career opportunities for our graduates,” Agrawal said.

University Provost Edward S. Inch added that while he’ll miss Agrawal’s leadership as a dean, Agrawal will return as a faculty member for the university’s Faculty Early Retirement Program and continue to support the university in other ways.

“He has been a strong and active dean who understands our students, their needs and our community,” Inch said.

Dr. Xinjian Lu, who is currently the associate dean of the College of Business and Economics and has been with the university since 1999, will serve as interim dean. The search for a new College of Business and Economics dean will begin shortly.
