CAL STATE EAST BAY MATH DEPARTMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

The Department of Mathematics is proud to offer the scholarships listed below which were made possible by donations from generous friends and patrons.  These scholarships are intended to support, honor and celebrate our students and to help them be successful at 麻豆传媒社区入口 and beyond

Scholarships

($1000)听 is awarded to a student pursuing a California credential for the teaching of secondary mathematics. This scholarship is named for Dr. John Hancock who was a Professor of Mathematics and Education at 麻豆传媒社区入口.听 He had a deep commitment to excellence in teaching. To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Successful completion of CSUEB Single-Subject Matter Waiver Program in Mathematics or equivalent
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA for those courses
  • Demonstrate financial need through your Personal Statement in the general application

($1000) provides support for undergraduate students majoring in mathematics.  This scholarship is named for Dr. Ken Rebman, former professor and dean at CSU East Bay.  Dr. Rebman was an expert in many areas from math to sports to music.  This scholarship is awarded to a student who reflects these broad and deep commitments.  To qualify for this opportunity applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be an upper division, undergraduate student majoring in mathematics.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the major and 2.75 at CSUEB overall
  • Satisfy at least ONE of the following:
    • Apart from mathematics courses have completed at least 12 units
      toward the requirements for a major or minor in another department of the
      university.
    • Have exhibited significant or sustained participation in some type of on-
      campus CSUEB extracurricular activity such as Intramural Sports, Intercollegiate
      Athletics, Associated Students Government, The Pioneer newspaper; or the
      University Jazz Band, Orchestra, Chorus, Theater and Dance productions; or
      have lived two or more semesters in on-campus housing.

($500) is awarded to students majoring in Mathematics who demonstrate financial need by filing a FAFSA or California Dream Act.听 This scholarship is named for Mary Rose Solbakken whose daughter, Janet, is an outstanding alumnus of our department.听 Janet is a long-time math teacher at Tennyson High School in Hayward, and continues to innovate her curriculum and provide support to students grounded in her own lived experience.听 To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Have demonstrated financial need by filing a FAFSA or California Dream Act.

(2 awards of $1000)听is awarded to students majoring in Mathematics. It is named for Dr. Ranjit Singh, a former Professor of Mathematics at CSU East Bay.听 Dr. Sabharwal was a leader who valued education and community.听 His family continues to support these priorities through this scholarship in his name.听 To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Mathematics in the upcoming Fall term
  • Have a 3.0 GPA or higher in (a) all college courses and (b) all college mathematics courses.

($1000)听is awarded to students majoring in Mathematics. This scholarship was established by Calliope C. Tracewell in memory of her husband and emeritus faculty member, Theodore Tracewell. To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be a junior or senior level undergraduate majoring in Mathematics in the upcoming Fall term
  • Have a minimum 3.5 GPA in all completed college-level mathematics coursework
  • Demonstrate progress in their mathematical development and promise of leadership in the mathematical sciences

($500) is awarded to students majoring in Mathematics. This scholarship was established by Anna Wrona and her sons Matthew and Peter to honor the memory of her husband, math professor emeritus W.S. Wrona.听 After Anna鈥檚 passing in 2007, the scholarship was renamed as the W.S. and Anna M. Wrona Endowed Scholarship.听 To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be a junior or senior level undergraduate majoring in Mathematics
  • Have a minimum 3.5 GPA
  • Demonstrate leadership, through the general application Personal Statement
